BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The globe was rocked by a pandemic of severe respiratory sickness known as Covid-19. The viral infection is quickly spreading over the world. Droplet transmission, contact with an infected case, and contact with contaminated fomites are all ways for the virus to spread. After a cluster of pneumonia outbreaks was reported in late December 2019 from Wuhan, China, the illness was first identified (Abney, 2021). Using next-generation sequencing technologies, a new human coronavirus (HCoV) was isolated from these patients, identified as a beta coronavirus, and provisionally called 2019 novel corona virus (2019-nCoV). The virus was called "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus" (SARS-CoV2) by the International Committee on Virus Taxonomy on February 11, 2020, and COVID-19 by the World Health Organization.

A study published in Nature Medicine on 17 March 2021 by Andersen et al. concluded that the SARS-CoV2 is not a laboratory constructed or manipulated virus based on the RBD on the SARS-CoV2. A study published in Nature Medicine on 17 March 2021 by Andersen et al. concluded that the SARS-CoV2 is not a laboratory constructed or manipulated virus based on the RBD on the SARS-CoV2. SARS-CoV-2 possesses an RBD that binds to ACE2 in humans, ferrets, cats, and other animals with similar receptors. According to WHO, coronaviruses are a category of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more serious illnesses including severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) (2019). It was initially passed down from animals to humans. Several coronaviruses that have not yet infected people are circulating in animals. The spread of these infections in Nigeria has put the government in a bind. As a result, the government took extraordinary measures and created legislation requiring all persons and sectors, including companies, to comply with the globally stated Covid-19 regulations or face legal consequences. However, the prevalence of law evasion in Nigeria is alarming; many local and emerging businesses are big players in Nigerian law evasion because they believe in bribery, which is illegal (Vorcy, 2021). On the other hand, Nigeria's law enforcement agencies are significant actors in corruption, and as a result, they fail to carry out their jobs properly and effectively as a result of bribery compensation demands. As a result of the foregoing, this study is being conducted to determine the rate at which industrial employees in Nigeria adhere to the Covid-19 safety guidelines.

1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Covid-19's severe and lethal nature has necessitated a number of limitations and preventative measures to limit its spread over the world, since the virus has the power to kill a person within seven days of contact (WHO 2019). As a result of Nigeria's Covid-19 experience, the government passed legislation requiring residents to adhere to Covid-19 preventative measures. Furthermore, these regulations apply to all sectors of the economy and organizations, including domestic enterprises (Vorcy, 2021). However, because most industrial tasks are complicated in nature, they cannot be completed with adhering to the majority of the covid-19 criteria, such as social distancing, continual hand washing, and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces. On this basis, the researcher aims to determine the extent to which industrial workers are required to follow the Covid-19 guidelines.

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The apex purpose of this study is to assess the Level of Covid-19 Safety Compliance among industrial workers. Below are other specific objectives;

  1. To investigate if industrial workers in Abuja complies with the Covid-19 safety prevention measure.
  2. Investigate the level to which industrial workers adhere to those prevention measures.
  3. To find out if Government enforcement agencies and the industry managerial board carry out their supervisory roles in ensuring complete compliance to Covid 19 prevention measures by the workers.

1.4 RESEARCH QUESTION

  1. What are the Covid-19 prevention measures mandated for industrial workers?
  2. Does industrial workers in Abuja comply with Covid-19 safety prevention measures?
  3. What is the level to which industrial workers comply with Covid-19 safety prevention measure?
  4. Does Government enforcement agencies and the industry managerial board carry out their supervisory roles in ensuring complete compliance to Covid 19 prevention measures by the workers?

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is geared towards finding out if industrial worker comply with Covid-19 rules or prevention measures and to ascertain the level at which they correspond to these safety measure, more so this study shall outline factors influencing workers adherence to the Covid-19 rules. Hence these findings will be useful to the Government as it exposes the situation of compliance to Covid-19 rules, so as to aid them to ascertain the best ways to ensure better compliance by workers to Covid-19 rules. This study will further serve as a benchmark for academic purposes.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study; the assessment of covid-19 safety compliance level among industrial workers is carried out and limited to Polystyrene Industries Abuja Nigeria.

1.7 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Finance, time and availability of materials were the major constraints the researcher encountered while carrying out this study.
